There isn't room inside for one I could put one where the pipe goes out onto the front porch. There are a couple lengths of uninsulated
pipe before it goes back into the insulated pipe through the porch ceiling and roof. Do I really need one?
I have been thinking about it rather than alter the stove, my hvac guy said I can shorten the length of insulated pipe going through
the wall and I'll still be fine on clearances and that should give enough room to use an adjustable elbow.

Hi Pete, The Barometric Damper is there to limit the draft, usually to -.03 to -.05. It does not create or increase draft. It is mainly there to avoid wasting heat out the chimney and for safe operation. Any coal stove especially stokers should have one installed and properly adjusted. A lot of people get away without one but I cannot recommend not using one.
There is a whole thread just on baro's on this forum.
Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, I will definitely get one for the new stove I was reading some of the other threads about them.
Are there specific ones made for stokers? My local hardware stove has them. Like I mentioned before,
I could only put one in the pipe on the front porch before the before the black stove pipe goes into the
insulated pipe will that be ok? Is there a specific setting and where would I find it?
I really appreciate all the information.

I like the Field controls 6"RC. It has a calibrated weight and scale. Gets it close enough to desired setting if plumb and level. We have them here and they are black and come with a tee

Dave could I order the damper when the dealer orders the stove?
In my situation where would you recommend I put it. There is
no room inside the house. When the pipe comes out of the house
onto my enclosed front porch there are two lengths of black stove pipe
coming off the clean out before it goes back into insulated pipe.
Other than there there is no place to put it.

A barometric damper can only be installed in the room where the stove is located, if it is another room or worse outside the house it will not control the draft with reference to the stove over fire pressure. Please be safe and make sure your installation is done or at least inspected by a professional.

The dealer can order the barometric damper when he orders the stove from us.

Best wishes for a trouble free installation and first use of your new stove. :)

Dave, I was reading some of the threads and found several questions about the "glass" in the door. I saw that one option was a
piece of steel in place of the "glass" is that something I could order when I order the stove? On the Pioneer, are the upper and
lower door interchangeable? Was wondering if I could go with one of those in place of a piece of steel? Extra cost?

Yea you can order with a steel plate instead of ceramic. It would be a discount but not sure how much. I would have to find out when I am at the shop on Monday. Have your dealer give us a call if they dont know. Thanks, Dave

Hi Pete,
They have not notified us that they are no longer in business, although it has been a while since they ordered anything. Try 508-909-6460, for some reason the number I put on the web site is different from the one currently in the system.

Here is what I have:

Thanks Dave,
I've been to Coal Stoves and More in Three Rivers Mass..
Mark spent over an hour with me answering all my questions
and I will be ordering the Pioneer rear vent through him next
month. I'm planning on using my old Alaska for the rest of
this heating season and have Mark install the new Pioneer late
next spring. I have also figured out to make the hearth work
without having to change anything on the stove.
Thanks again I look forward to doing business with your company and
Coal Stoves and More.
