Portage and Main pissed people off because they started selling direct for less than dealers were selling for; that's all the red on that site means, from what I hear anyway.

The heating innovations boiler is a good one and more people in the states use them. There's a few people in ohio and one member of this site that has that brand. If you've got a good source of inexpensive coal don't be afraid of the high price, they're good units and they can burn a wide variety of coal sizes and grades - even larger stoker sizes which are common. The only caveat is that the coal must have a low or non-existent coke button for that type of stoker to function properly.

Well, that depends on the price of the fuel and the heating load. If you can get 14,000+btu/lb low ash bituminous stoker coal for 150/ton or less delivered vs. 12,500btu/lb anthracite for 200/ton delivered, and a 400,000btu/hour load with automatic coal feed and ash removal, which would you choose? Paying a few $$ more for a boiler that handles a less expensive fuel may very well be the better choice.

There's more to consider than the price of the boiler; the price of the fuel is significant.

I'm not sure I can get Bituminous coal up here....anthracite coal I definitely know I can get for 285 a ton....I would have to talk to my supplier to see if he would be willing to bring a load and at what price.

Yup, northern Maine would probably reduce the price advantage of bituminous coal to be more comparable with anthracite. Your supplier likely won't have a clue what kind of coal is needed or even where to purchase; bituminous and anthracite are two very different markets and materials. For people outside of northern maine however, and those with a large heat load, a stoker boiler that burns bit coal has $$ advantages even considering the high initial price of the equipment.

Blaschak Coal is what my supplier hauls in up here...is there bit coal anywhere near the are that Blaschak Coal is mined?

No, where Blaschak is mined is all Anthracite coal. Bituminous coal is much further west and south,, Think Pittsburg, West
Virginia, eastern Kentucky..

Your distance from the coal fields will be a problem,, you are really lucky to have a local supply for Anthracite coal..

I have to have my Anthracite trucked in, and the cost is not insignificant.. it adds $55/ton to the purchase price at the
Breaker.

Hey Northern Maine, did you know they used to mine coal in Nova Scotia? I went up there with a college basketball team 10 years ago and we stopped in a small town and it was the claim to fame for that town. They had a big collapse and that closed the mine. I didn't know about coal at the time so I don't know if it was bit or ant.

They also brought in Bit for big boilers because my first coal came from the Calais middle school. I'll bet that auger was 9 inches in diameter. But the coal was smaller then Anthracite nut.
