Has anyone painted a Jotul 507?

I guess you are basing the overfiring on the commonly burned out metal inserts. These stoves are 30-40 years old. I think even without over firing, those inserts were doomed to disintegrate eventually. They were made to be replacable. Too bad we didn't stock up on them back in the 70's. :lol:

Actually, it was quite cool down below due to ashes, the hot part was the top half. I am quite aware how hot that is, and it is not SOP. What I meant to say was that the top 1/2 was doing ok, but do not go higher. I think the folks that burn out coal stoves/grates, light them, no ashes, with the bottom door open and walk away and forget them, as a SOP.

Here are some pictures of the re-coated Jotul 507. Compared to my original posting, you can see the difference for yourselves. I've been running the stove for several days and everything still looks great! The smell of curing has gone away too. I recommend this to anyone looking to get rid of white abrasion marks in the finished glazing. The stove is nice deeper green now (I'm assuming it was that way when it was made and the new clear coat now brings it out again).

Not many guys made that kind of work on a stove here :idea:
