The wife was perusing Craigslist for used stoves for my Shop and found an ad for a Stoker II ( no age given) for 1K located in New Boston, New Hampshire ( Iknow, I never heard of the town either).
Called the seller, he knew nothing about Coal stoves, in fact this was in his old dugout style basement but never hooked up (he moved in 2yrs ago and has had no luck selling it.) He mentioned it comes with a PowerVent...I was then convinced it was worth a 2-1/2hr Sunday road trip...and it was.

I found the reciept in the folder he gave me...Purchased from RH Lutz and Sons in PA on Oct . 15th -1994. The stove was a contridication, the outside, Top blower assy. carpet - feed assy. and inside the hopper... everything is like it was from a time warp becuase it looks barely ever used. But, inside the firebox and grate was covered in an inch of rust. A shop vac took on the duties of sucking out the rust /dust and revealed that the grate looks like new, the gaskets are perfect and still brite white. PowerVent while just as old, hums along like new, no bearing noise at all and came complete with mounting wall plates and Zero reducer. The original owner bought the optional back up car battery powerd carpet-feed motor. Oh, and it also had a Manometer in the box of various extras. I have every manual for Stove, PwrVent and Condar Manometer.

The glass is in perfect condition although the brackets that hold it in place are corroded beyond hope...but it makes me wonder how many hours were actually on this unit...I guessing very very few. Not a speck of Fly Ash was to be found Anywhere.

I didn't bother with standard shots becuase we all know what they look like. Hope you like it, I think I made out well...you?

Thanks guys,

No worries though, like I said not even a speck of Fly Ash to be found. I already vacuumed it out from top to bottom, took the grate out, the carpet feed motor etc...all clean. Just needs a coat of interior paint. I've got all summer to set -it up and do it right without rushing things.

Yeah I'm stoked (pun intended) I bought my Channing III in 07 and it's performed it's duty perfectly...as my primary heat source.

This unit will be in my Machine Shop, 24' x 20' with 16ft ceilings..Ive no doubt this puppy will keep me toasty warm at minimal coal usage.

The Modine Unit will be on Craigslist in the near future, Good-bye Propane at $4.00 a gallon!

Ed A.,

I would venture a guess to say that the unit you just bought has not had any coal run through it. Especially by looking at the glass.

I have one of those that I used to heat my old body shop. I since replaced it with a Hyfire II for the new shop but I kept the Stoker II for the garage at home.

If you have any questions fire away. Pun intended. The old stoker II has been in operation for 20 years + with minimal summerization. It always fires back up in the fall and heats the home garage fine at a minimal burn. I installed a custom built heat jacket to help distribute the heat.

Feel free to ask any questions. And yes, you made a good buy.

Rick,
thanks for the kind offer.

To be honest, when I got home with this the first thing I did was log back on here to start my reseach and you were very helpful to the person who has 11pages on the Stoker II rebuild thread.

Trust me when questions arise I know where to go. :=)

Welp. been 3 days @ 20* overnite and can say that my '94 Stoker came through with nary a hitch. I know the Tri-burner is Old -School but it's going to work great in my machine shop, I don't need to be fussing with "house temps" of +/- 5 deg's so it"s all cool
