EFM Round door latch

EFM Round door latch

PostBy: k9 Bara On: Sat Sep 08, 2012 10:43 pm

While opening the viewing door, it slipped from my fingers :fear: and fell shut. Unfortunately it snapped the small cast iron latch that secures the door. This happened a while ago, but would like to repair. Any one have a part # for it?

Thank you

If you are handy with an angle grinder or a bandsaw a piece can be made from some plate steel that will be less likely to break. The shaft at the point where the latch attaches is tapered to a square, but this is pretty easy to replicate with a small square hand file. It doesn't have to be perfect, just enough to sit down on the square part of the shaft and lock in. I had to make one for mine and it took under an hour, and is 3/16" plate steel....not going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm guessing some of the forum members will chime in that happen to have these floating around though.

I don't know if I would even bother to source another latch...the weight of the cast iron door should hold it closed?

Thank you for the replies. Yes Rob, the door does keep it shut without issue. I just wanted it right.
I might leave it, but then again it can't cost all that much.

Decisions, lol

I think I'll order one. My dad is just about to put another EFM online, cant hurt to get one or two.

Thank you again,
