Welfare Nation: using PA as an example ...

Pretty soon, for every person that works, there will be a person that takes. The chart here shows PA as an example. I would be curious to see that same chart using MA as an example - I'd bet it's MUCH worse ...

I think Maine is already beyond that point, but I am not sure. I heard it was something like 60% on welfare of some kind, and 40% pulling the cart.

I just got back from 2 days of Agricultural meetings and heard a unique percentage figure. 80% of the Maine Budget goes to the Department of Human Services, where as only 4% goes to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Conservation.

It is not so funny either that only 1/2 of 1% (1 out of 200 people) are farmers. You will actually see that statistic as being 2%, BUT that is only because the Government was afraid people would grow nervous if they knew that such a small population feeds the rest of the nations, SO they included waiters, waitresses, cooks, restaurant owners, etc into that figure to get a percentage they felt was more believable and less threatening then a half a percent!

What if everyone who owes taxes at the end of the year did not file? Instead let the amount build then negotiate a settlement after a few yrs just like some of these officials do.
