WOW, a brass pull knob. Now thats the cats meow and not a speck of dirt. :notworthy:

Ha! It's a brass ball off my old fireplace andiron and finally found a use for it after all these years of being in the way. It works well and adds weight to keep the chute door where it belongs. I just need to find a use for the one I have left.

She's currently holding 2.5 ton and should be good until spring.

And as far as the polyurethane, if I would have had some on hand, it would be there :D

This is my bin, holding 3 ton of Blaschak's finest pea. I enlarged from it's previous size of 2 ton. I had to design it around the electric meter, so there's an offset and a small matching roof behind the oil tank. The oil tank line passes through a length of conduit into the garage. The water line also does a dogleg around the inside to go through the wall. I can open the door on the face to pull the coal down and actually climb in if necessary.

On the end you can see the fill door opened. There are two large cleanouts below the fill door that remove with a couple screws if necessary.

It exits on the other side of the wall into the garage, where it's a 8 ft. trip to the stove. I wanted it as easy as possible.

Note the 1940s MAGOR 2 coal shovel. One of the few memories I have of my Dad. He shoveled many tons into that 'snowman' beast we had in the basement before setting it aside with installation of the new oil burner in 1958! It's been used by me since 1986, it's still as solid as when it was new.

I'm trying a couple bags of nut to mix in with the pea this year, hence the bag on the floor. When not in use, the wood corral pivots up and of course the trap door closes. I only have a 1 car garage so space is precious.

Thanks for looking!

I've upgraded this year. Went from an M101A1 3/4 ton trailer to an M105 1.5T trailer.

I have just under 5 ton in it now. Could probably fit 7 ton.

And the best part is I keep the wife happy. At the end of the season I take the trailer and hide it out back behind the trees, Keeps the place looking tidy.

Plus I only have $250 into the trailer. (it's worth that in scrap)

Goverment Liquidation Auction. http://www.govliquidation.com/
Prices on an M105 range from $200-1000 depending on location and condition. I had to buy 2 in one lot to get mine for $250 each, out of Dayton OH. They are a bit large for a pickup. The M101's are perfect for a pickup. I still have 2 of them, sold 7 for a small profit. They are getting hard to find and prices are climbing up, usually $500+. The 2 I still have I paid $150 and $300 for. Couldn't touch either of them for under $500 now.

I also have the M35 Deuce 1/2 truck to move it with too.

I finally got a coal bin built, halfway through my second heating season with coal

I still need to build a chute though, I had to lug 3.5 tons of UAE Harmony nut in 5 gallon buckets! Need to add a coal chute next.

Not much head room, just made it. I'm burning buckwheat coal.

This my second install. The first was down on the lower left hole. The 4 inch auger was only ten feet long and I had to make the box for the auger to pick up the coal. I had to shovel the coal into the corner. Now I have a 5 ft extension and it is much better. I had to increase the pulley from 7 inches to 12 inches for more power. The auger is a Jet Flow with a 2 HP 240 vac motor.

Got my coal bin finished yesterday and got it filled today with 6 tons of Stockton Anthracite! $235 per ton delivered... This stuff is beautiful! No fines, white ash and sized consistent.. Can't wait to fire it up 6 months from now hahaha... Next season's heating bill is paid in full, very comforting 8-)
