Back to Basics Terryville CT Coal Delivery Policy

PostBy: Uglysquirrel On: Tue Nov 27, 2012 7:04 pm

Called Dave my regular coal supplier today for delivery charges for 3 rice pallets to 3 miles east of the river right off I-84, he indicated it was only economical for him to deliver 15 + tons on Saturday and to do that he could only deliver to Terryville and adjacent border towns . Looks like truck/diesel costs are killing him. Sad.

fyi...

In the coal delivery business you need either A) an area saturated with customers if they are taking less than a full load or b)customers taking full loads. If you don't have that you're not making money.

I'll be there on Saturday picking up a ton with my truck. Operating costs have made business difficult and we started charging ten dollars per delivery as well. This proves again why I can't trade in my truck for a car!

I just got 6 tons from Back to Basics for about $310 a ton delivered 41 miles away; I do have a forklift for easy offload though.

Just a reminder, bring a check or cash. They do charge a $ 20.00 dollar fee when you use a bank debit card.

I just burned the last bag of my 3 tons. The first 2 tons were rice but the last ton was Buck which I definitely prefer. The rice was always full of water, clinked and left pieces stuck inside the bag.

But anyway, I went to buy 20 more bags of Buck but was told NO. The girl at the counter said they mistakenly sold it to me last time. She said the Buck was for store use only, not customers.

This may be the last straw for me if I can find another source. My local Agway is willing to stock Buck but their price is higher.

Do BT Pellet in Bristol, they delivered 5 pallets ~25 miles away for 120 two months ago. Delivered in a week from my call.

Back To Basics

Mark E Whelan Just remember I'll need 3 tons of buck this winter. Maybe more if the winter is anything like the last few years.

Back To Basics Coal is a bit tight this year, just make sure you let me know in advance when you need it and I'll try my best to get it for you. -Dave

The above is a cut and paste from Facebook. I went so far as to fax him back in July or August with a request to stock enough buckwheat coal this year. I still have the fax confirmation page in my desk at work. It looks like I will have to go elsewhere. I don't think anyone stocks Buck here in Connecticut. To be honest I'm a little angry.

I'd be a bit angry as well, you got screwed over, plain and simple. Clearly you asked and was promised. Clearly you asked and a promise not met. Sometimes I just hate my fellow man.

Did he put any $$$ down to stock the "special" kind ?

Promises in business mean nothing, absolutely nothing in today's world.

Your money is good anywhere .. spend it elsewhere as you see fit.

I picked up 60 bags yesterday. Two round trips with the Honda Odyssey which totaled 124 miles but worth it. They did start charging $ 25.00 dollars extra if you pay with a debit card. The cash price is 300 per ton. On a good note, their Sunday hours are now from 9-3.

The most important part for me was that they had BUCK in stock! :D
