I'm trying to determine what to do with my Stelrad Coal boiler. I replaced it a few years ago with a coal-o-matic auger feed boiler and no longer use it.
Here are the issues.
1. It has a crack in the water jacket, which I described on this forum some time ago. I understand it can be welded but I am not sure what the cost of that might be.
2. Its in my basement so in order for it to go out it needs to go up a flight of stairs and over.
I would like to sell it, but have no real idea of a value either broken or repaired. Its a 120k btu unit and similar units on ebay seem to be going around 1500 for working used ones?
I have a few options in mind, would love any suggestions or reasons why they may be better or worse.
One is to haul the boiler out of the basement intact. I'm guessing it weighs in around 1/2 ton and would be a pain to get up out of the basement like this.
Another is to take it apart and bring the cast iron sections up one at a time making the transport easier.
A third is to sell it as is buyer removes - let the buyer decide how to get it out.
Also, I could chose to have it repaired, with the options being in place or take it to a welder.
RIght now I am not sure what i want to do, but am leaning towards: taking it apart, having the cracked section(s) repaired, selling it.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Jay
