A pinch in the grounds before brewing- I learned it from a retired Coast Guard commander. Filtered water will eliminate the unwanted flavors that can happen from the tap. If you can taste the salt, using too much. Makes a fine cup of Joe 8-)

...a little science..!
... different areas of the human tongue have taste sensors to distinguish different types of taste...(bitter...sour...salty...sweet)
... the sodium ion diminishes bitterness by interfering with the transduction mechanism of that taste.... and the effect occurs below the level at which the salty taste would be registered...
.... so I guess if you're tasting salt... maybe you're using too much???

... the coffee thing is great.. but I enjoy eating lemons with salt on them... and they don't taste sour.. now I know why :D

..I noticed great coffee with distilled water, not spring or filtered water. I don't do it often only when I have good quality coffee beans. A pinch of nutmeg does wonders for low quality coffee, any coffee actually if you like that flavor. Someone mentioned a dash of vanilla---mmmm good!

Well maybe I used too much... I sprinkled 1/2 tsp on top of my grounds before brewing...
