Anyway .... the Focus just ate ANOTHER *censored* timing belt tensioner tonight!!! Are you *censored* kidding me???? First one, 4,500 miles. This one can't be more than 1,200. Getting real sick of this *censored*! Can't get a friggin break!!!

Yeah I might just do that this time. I tried last time, but I had bought the tensioner as part of a timing "kit" that came with the belt, a water pump, & a tensioner. They wouldn't give us money back - just a replacement .. because they wanted the pump and belt back too ... Yeah, that's what I said!

Now that I have the replacement, I WILL be getting money back this time around, then I'll be stopping at Ford on the way home. This is just *censored* stupid.

EDIT: Mistake on the miles - just did the math. It lasted a whopping 761 miles!! 16 days ....

This is one of the many reasons I refuse to enter the new truck nightmare. F350 1997 needed a new steering pump so being lazy and having a bad back got it done at a local chop shop that lasted 2 days and the whine was back and no fluid. HAHA says I, I obviously need a Ford genuine replacement to went to a local Ford stealership and said only new ford stuff please. 6 hours later at $90/hour I got the truck back and a bill that included a new pump for about $150. As I am old and crabby and before I paid the bill I upped the hood and showed the service manager that the pump had not been replaced. Got my HDVR-150 off the windscreen taped the manager lying, pump pic and the bill. He gave it to me for free after threatening legal action. That lasted 48 hours too. PHK them all I will do it myself in the spring. All I need is enough home brewed beer and a few advil b4 doing the dirty.

Nah, sorry, does not work like that. Any automotive company will tell you we buy on style, if not Detroit would have been history thirty years ago..... we are basically stupid and that includes yours truly.

A power steering pump is one thing I have never had to change on any of my Fords. I usually change the power steering fluid around 100k...I always figured getting the factory fill and break-in material out was a good idea, but maybe I've just been lucky? I went all out with my Grand Marquis and put synthetic transmission fluid in the power steering...that thing doesn't make a sound even at -20.

No complaints about the length of service at 200,000 miles and 16 years but I wanted it fixed. Break in fluid...... hahahahahha, Rob you are hilarious.

Somewhere I have a service document that days 90% of the wear particles generated during the life of a differential are in the first 15,000 miles...automatic transmissions are similar. I don't know the figures for a power steering system, but I think it is safe to assume that if you change the fluid even once in the first 100k the system will be in better shape at higher mileages. If not, I guess I have wasted a few gallons of fluid over the years.

They tell you that so they can put metal shavings IN to ensure you come back... do I sound a little bitter???

Guy I work with has a 2004 GMC 4WD pickup with 100K miles. The front differential has problems. Mechanic has it all apart and says it needs a gear, plus various bearings are basically dust and the input shaft is worn. The gear would be $200 IF you could buy one but you can't because none of the parts depots in the country have one and don't know if they ever will. They will sell you a whole new differential for $2,000, or a whole new truck I suppose for $$$$$. Fortunately he has located a low-mileage used differential for "only" $450.

It shouldn't be so hard. It's basically criminal to sell you a $30,000 truck and then refuse to make parts available.

That's why I like locking hubs,no stress on the front when unlocked.
