Soldier.
Congressman.
Mayor.
Lawyer.
Judge.
Mayor Koch was a lot of things to a lot of people. He helped clean up NY during the height of crime and after a financial crisis. I was too young to really know him. I was born in 1977 the year he took office and was only 11 when he left office. My biggest memory of him was from the movie "The Muppets Take Manhatten". I do remember seeing him on TV as a kid and always thinking that he had a funny voice. I remember his, 'How am I doing?' catchphrase, though at that time I didn't really understand what he meant and being a child I'd just giggle at it.
I always liked him. Even though, I don't know much about his politics. I do know that at the time he was Mayor of New York the city was in trouble. He had to deal with crime that was running rampant, corruption, homelessness on an endemic scale, and the AIDs panic.
He will be missed.
