Coffee, Ground Hogs Day 2013

My buddy was on that crap for 7 months after a botched gastric bypass surgery that ended with a nasty infection. What a nightmare for him. Couldn't eat or drink for MONTHS. Had bill collectors ready to kick his door down - was out of work that whole time with no possible way of going back. He had a hell of a time getting off the pills afterward. He didn't realize how addicted to them he was until he tried to stop. Told his surgeon this, and the guy basically said 'too bad, so sad'. Real nice. I hate doctors ....

6.5 mm was the real size...
lasered and brought it out in a basket...
so no peeing out chuncks of porcupine...
Wife worked at Gosnold in Falmouth...
no worries about good medicine gone bad...
never really liked the feeling of the medical drugs for recreation...
but when needed for pain i don't hesitate...
I find if you have a honest conversation with the doc's and nurses...
things go better,wife being a nurse usually helps but sometimes not...
There are some docs/nurses that no matter what you say are just dicks...
They were going to send me home early...
but my nice nurses, the wife and myself said no way...
good thing...
That first pee was pure blood and clots...
not fun took about 2 hours and a few more oxy's to finally fill the bucket with pee...
Cranberry colored pee but not horrible pain...
'cause of the meds!

Great news CC! Awesome that they could get that sucker out without the usual torture! Get well my friend.

I abused so much of them in my younger days that when I go in, and they medicate me based on my size, it does NOTHING. Morphine just makes me drowsy for about 10 minutes. Does nothing for pain for me.

Yeah good deal Cape! Saved you LOTS of excruciating pain, I can tell ya that much.

The wife is in a lot of pain too right now, but she can't have the good pain killers because she is 23 weeks pregnant. Her kidneys are full of them, but they are not even sure of what to do because the baby is at a very vulnerable age right now. When you see a group of Doctor's huddling around trying to figure out what to do next and kind of panicked, you know its bad. She is still at home, but we go and see a specialist who has already suggested maybe going to Bangor or Portland where the hospital is bigger.

Yep Smitty, that tolerance never goes away once you have it. What's interesting to me is how well the opiate based meds work as we humans have used them for thousands of years in one form or another. They actually do nothing to address the root cause of the pain. It's all upstairs in the brain where they "allow" one to tolerate the pain easier. Like the old Dupont or is it Eli Lilly (should be) slogan :"Better Living through Chemistry"

Bigger Boston hospital is better...
I highly recommend Brigham and Womans Hospital...
Childrens is over rated, Tufts is good with our kids...
It depends on the problem but most Big Boston hospitals aare good...
Avoid BMC Boston Medical Center...
But Boston is a haul ...
The wife had life threating complications just after the birth of our twins...
They resolved it, made you a part of the process and brought in the people they needed to get the job done...
They had Neuro, Maternity and Vascular pulled in to get the solution...

The stone was stuck and at 6.5mm really had very little chance opf getting out on its own...
Avoided extra pain but not out of pain...
The Morphine was the cleanest...
Oxy gives me freakish nightmares, full color and very weird...
Pyridum to ease the irritation of the camera/laser/basket...
Thanks to modern medicine a 'non surgical' solution that has you out of the hospital quickly...
This is considered 'day surgery' but i was admitted very lucky for me...
On the mend and back to work on Friday...
