Buying a 4 yr old Koker 160

I'm looking at buying a 4 yr old Koker 160. The price seems good and the condition of the stove is as expected. Fully functional with no problems. Are there any down falls to buying a 4 yr old Koker? What should I look for before purchasing as far as wear and tear.

Has anything changed on the Koker between now and 4 years ago?

Make sure the hopper isn't rotted out, and the feed mechanism moves freely. Other than that, I think you would notice any issues.

Is $2000 bucks a good price for a 4yr Koker 160? Not sure what they are going for used because you don't see used ones for sale too often.

I know they are about 3400 new....

A dealer told me usually to expect 5-7 years (rough average) bfore motors start to fail.
In all ( combustion blower.... Stoker motor... and convection blower)
Would cost approximately 700 dollars to replace all 3....

That's good to know. I was hoping the motors last longer then 5-7 years but that depends on use and environment too. I'm going to try and get this for a bit less then 2000, espically if I can expect to put out 700 for new motors in the near future.

Check for any signs of a hopper fire by looking above the stoker and under the hopper. If it appears to be burned, you will need to replace the stoker gasket. Also are the nylon feed wheel and pusher carpet in good shape? The gaskets on the doors are very easy to replace and are cheap when bought in bulk. The motors can be checked for noise by simply plugging the koker in and seeing how smooth they run. There will be a timer on the side that you can turn to activate the stoker motor. Door glass can be had online for fairly cheap too. Offer 1600 or 1700 and see what happens. 2k is a fair price.

I bought the Koker for 1800. All parts seem in good condition. All gaskets have been replaced. Since I took it apart to transport, I will be giving it a good cleaning inside and a new paint job. Figured it would be easier now then later on.

One question, the slide under hopper that leads to coal into the feeder. What material is this? It appears to be a high temp caulk of some sort. Is this the best way for coal to easily slide down from the hopper to the feeder?

There wasn't any silicone type material in my koker, bought new. Just furnace cement used to seal in between the coal feed plates. Where is this silicone you are talking about? It sounds like it was added by the previous owner??

Congratulations on getting your Koker.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you're asking, but here is what my Koker looked like when new. This is the opening in the bottom of the hopper where the coal goes on to the stoker plate. There is some gasket material showing below the hopper. Maybe this is where you're seeing the high temp caulk. Everything else is sheetmetal or cast iron.

Yes, where you see the gasket material the previous owner had put high temp caulk there. Is there any need for this? I'm thinking about trying to remove it?

Yes the gasket is supposed to be caulked like yours is. I used stove cement on my Keystoker 90
