this just goes to show what brain dead, out of touch, idiots are running the show, i wonder what the gun ban folks will say when someone takes his advice that a shotgun is easier to use and then takes his advice and uses one in a violent crime and states that the vice president told him too because it was easier. what a total moron

I'm by far not as expert as most here on weapons & self defense or anything else for that matter but I would think that a shotgun would be a good choice for home protection. The weapon & shells are fairly inexpensive & you need not be an expert marksman inside the home unless perhaps in a Mcmansion type abode. Just my uneducated opinion, don't want to upset any that prefer a 50 cal or claymore's.

Don't know about you, but as decent a shot as I am, I'd much rather have 6 or more - preferrably 30.

Either way, still doesn't justify the gov't telling me which weapon are "appropriate" for home defense. A free people typically make those decisions on their own.

My preference would be a pump & that's what the wife has practiced with, you would be surprised what a muzzle flash & one or more people going down does to take that high away. I saw the tape & all I heard was a suggestion as to what a good weapon would be not a mandate telling anyone anything just an opinion. Like I said something in the reach financially for most & doesn't require a lot of expertise, I had the biggest problem with my wife because she wouldn't stop shooting, tried my old street-sweeper first & the house probably would have collapsed on anyone left standing, don't think the homeowners policy would be too happy so she can use the 380 for cleanup.

A shot gun probably is the best home defence gun but, one can be easily taken from you if you are not as strong as the person who is taking it away from you its really easy to grab ahold of. Now a handgun is a lot harder to get out of someones hands.

For those who don't know & won't understand my point: a double-barrel shotgun holds 2 ROUNDS ONLY!! So, fire them both in the air ..... then pray the guy doesn't come back??

Smitty, that's why I said a pump I don't know what the law is where he lives, we just got the Castle Doctrine or what ever it's called before that they better be in the house & you have better shoot them in the front. One warning shot for someone outside would be more than enough then a couple of spare shells work as well, it all depends on the lay out & if it's inside or just outside a lot of mistakes happen at times. Even with a legitimate shooting it's still a hassle in Pa. but it's better now than it ever was at least that's one good thing Corbett did for the state.

Sorry Sam, but a shotgun inside a home is not more effective. People just think it is. The pattern of an ordinary shotgun will not open up enough to make a poor shot more effective at the ranges typically found in a home. It has been debated endlessly in gun forums. Fine shot, medium shot, heavy shot, and slugs. Doesnt penetrate the walls, big blast, big hole in the end, sound of it racking a shell in, etc. Ever seen someone touch off a magnum self defense load in a shotgun? Brutal recoil. Not for most women.

Bottom line....the best gun for self defense is the one YOU the individual can effectively manage. Not the one the gov. tells you it will allow you to have, at this time. Now, I will not get into a debate with you about it, your stance is well defined in this forum. I will just direct you to any one of a dozen forums with real experts and real experience and let you chew them up. Let me know how that works out for ya.

For my money, I would have my wife armed with a 9mm Bullpup style like the Kel Tec. At least a 30 shot mag. No recoil for her to contend with, ridiculous firepower in a close space, handy and short and light, etc. Accurate to boot. And they won't be counting the shots with that puppy.

Like I said Klook a lot depends on the persons pocket & abilities, size & layout of the house & many other factors. I know that no matter what I say it's gonna be wrong with most here so just do what ya gotta do as long as Ronnie the Robot doesn't get me with the gamma ray from his saucer I have a fairly good chance.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that blasting a couple rounds "off your back porch" into the air will land you in jail in MA.
