Astrophotography

PostBy: mkline On: Thu Feb 28, 2013 3:35 pm

I got my 1st tracking mount to put my scope and camera on and tried it out the other night.I got 1 nights use of it then the hand control quit on me the next time I went to use it.It was sent back and a new on is on the way.
This shot is of the Orion Nebula. The image is 80 5 second shots stacked in Deep Sky Stacker.I only used my Canon 5D and Canon 100-400L @ 400mm on a Celestron AVX mount. This was the 1st time ever using a tracking mount so I think I can do better.

WOW!! Now THAT is f'ing COOL!! 8-) Nice pic!!

I've wanted a telescope since I was little. Prices keep me away. I can't settle for one that "will do" .... I have to go top-of-the-line ... in my head anyway. ;)

I've been known to check out the moon with my spotting scope when I'm not at the range, though. :D Enough to show craters. Pretty neat.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the links tsb.I didnt have very good alignment that's why I only did 5 sec shots. The stars aren't round like they should be,so I'm sure I can get even better detail. When I get my hand control back, and if the weather cooperates,I'm going to try for at least 30 sec shots.Maybe around a half hours worth. There's so much up there my heads gonna spin :shots: .

Nice shot of Panstarrs tsb. I froze my butt off on the hill but I finally had clear sky. Although I did have a few cream stouts with me to help with the cold  . Anyway I was going to post these last night and forgot.

What time of the afternoon or early evening did you guys take that shot of the comet ??

I've been telling my grandson about it but I've been working late and couldn't get home in time.

Hopefully I get a chance this weekend. weather permitting of course.
