The Chubby Stove, Larry Trainer – My good friends..

Friends of NEPA,

Present, past and future - I am humbled beyond words. Those of you whom I have met personally and others who have purchased a Coal Stove Chubby sight unseen from far away, have been very kind with your words, and reviews. It is what keeps me putting one foot in front of the other every day.

As a very small business (micro business) these days, we strive to do our very best with the products we make and sell to you. We do not know how we are doing until we visit NEPA to check in with you “the jury”, and read with interest your posts. Then we can go back to work and continue on doing what we do. When we need some encouragement again, we stop in at NEPA to make sure we are still between the guardrails.

My announcement that I am returning for duty in the war on high fuel prices has been met with open arms by most all of you. I may not have enough time in a day to participate in daily discussions with you, but as you know my open phone policy to speak with you has been in place for 35 years even when the company was fast asleep. I will stop in time to time for a visit with you all.
In the meantime if you have a question, concern, or otherwise please call me directly I always answer my phone, and or return calls to all of you. You’re the very best! You guys rock!!

Its always nice to have advocates of coal burning here, even at times we as members of Nepa may debate things together in good fun... the one common theme always is our is our love of Coal and Stoves.

I do find it baffling that even though I've been your neighbor and colleague for decades I never knew of your profile "Itra" here on Nepa So I can imagine all those 1000's who have read many of the 100's of Chubby threads over the years certainly would not have known you were here either, This thread should be a "sticky" or "announcement" at the top of Chubby Stove section (otherwise it this post will get buried into archives and it wil not serve you or your advocates and customers as it should) (Im going to pester you till you talk to Rich!) hahaha

You have always been a great man Larry and its good to hear from you.

Richard has the capability to change your username, if so desired. Might be good for publicity.


Congrats on the reincarnation of the Chubby, btw. I have a newfound appreciation for stove builders. I tried my hand at it (for someone else) and failed miserably - it's nowhere near as easy as it looks on paper.

Yea... When I look back at all my dad did in his life it amazes me and I dont know how he did all he did to raise a stove company (Im sure Larry went through the same process). I have only a few archives left of those days which i posted for folks to see a little glimps into a stove company (Im not sure if you read that thread Smit?), but I would bet 100% Larry could make a photo archive thread of the history or Chubby Stoves that many of us would love so much to see (lets hope and pray he will find the time to scan in some of these photo's from his plant in Plympton decades ago). I remember it as an 12 year old kid and I can remember going to Reed Sand & Gravel and seeing Chubby's lined up as far as the eye could see when got one to test. Time for Larry to pull out the old photo albums!!!

Yeah I read the whole thing & looked at all your pics. Pretty cool history you've got there - not many people can say that.

The photo's are in PDF form and they don't want to be placed "inline' on this site. Perhpas Richard can do something to help with the issue.

There is no way for me to display this on a page without using a plugin..

If the image was scanned you can output as .jpg instead of .pdf.

To get an image our of .pdf most readers have a way of taking a screenshot or you can do it directly in Windows.

Ideally you use a program that can extract the image file itself from the .pdf but those are usually pay for software.

yaaa.... these are clearly a couple of Larry's personal photo's as that truck is leaving from his plant in Plympton decades ago. lets just wait for proper threads and time and for larry to pull out some old photo albums he will allow me to scan in.

Yesterday I suggested to the Qc anthracite importer to include Chubby stoves to his little list of anth stoves. Chubby could be a very good alternative for peoples searching a different stove...

I am purchasing(or trying) a house with a fireplace. I hate fireplaces as most American ones are deep boxes that just suck up all the heat and spit it out the chimney. Is that fireplace insert still available? I have been reading and thinking a Chubby may work for me as the heat needs in Chattanooga are mild. They are a small stove right? I really want an antique but i don't need the heat output.

The Chubby Fireplace insert is the rarest of beings and I don't think Larry has any plans to put them back into production at this time. Jr Chubby's and the Brickstone model will be back in production for next year. A Jr's is a fairly small stove, standing just 30 inches tall. Though I would go with a reg Chubby myself if my hearth would allow for one. Better to have more stove than you need than not enough. Even in your mild climate.

A Regular or Jr Chubby is already very easy to pipe into a fireplace. You can see the set up at this link: http://chubbystove.com/operation%20manual.pdf

Thanks, I can see a Chubby in my future. If the locals are correct and I brought this cold winter with me, I will need it next winter.
