41% of Obamaphones Ineligible

To be fair the program wasn't started under Obama but it went from costing 819 million in 2008 to a whopping 2.2 billion last year.

Suspecting that many of the new subscribers were ineligible, the Federal Communications Commission tightened the rules last year and required carriers to verify that existing subscribers were eligible. The agency estimated 15% of users would be weeded out, but far more were dropped.

A review of five top recipients of Lifeline support conducted by the FCC for the Journal showed that 41% of their more than six million subscribers either couldn't demonstrate their eligibility or didn't respond to requests for certification.

Surprise, surprise. Looks like obama's team has been taking tips from the Massachusetts state government on how to run entitlement programs. Figures ...

Like every other Gov. program, it may start out with good intentions but soon it will be run into the ground, they have to make everything idiot & greed proof with stiff penalties if caught scamming the system.

What they need to do is go after everyone of them for fraud.

But if they do that the first one out of the box will be Jesse Jackson followed by Al Sharpton about how the minorities are being misused again. Of course the ones that have phones surely didn't realized they may not be entitled to them.

Richard you have hit the nail in the head. The complete lack of any accountability in these type of programs are the reason they must be stopped across the board. There was a program not to long ago here in Taxachusetts that gave free cars with insurance and AAA to those "in need". Meanwhile the rest of us are the ones footing the bill.

We have all seen it. Food Stamp users buying lobster, steaks and candy with their food stamp cards. The welfare moms (ie the Gimmie Girls) who pop or squeeze out kid after kid to keep the checks coming in on a regular basis and then making sure each kid gets a diagnosis of ADD so a Disability Check is added to the pile. Yet the fathers (plural) are rarely called to task by the government. Some of these women have 7 or more kids. Good lord it is a vagina not a clown car!

It simply doesn't make sense for these on the system/dole to work. There is no point when the freebies and benefits are there for every aspect of your life. Cheap housing, Cheap or FREE cable TV and Internet, FREE food and transportation, free phones and the list goes on and on. Doesn't matter if you are a legal resident or citizen. Just ask Obama's Aunt who is living in her free apartment in South Boston while a homeless US Veteran can't get any help. Ok I feel better now after the rant... THANKS!
