The last appointment my twin sons had for their 3 year check-up the doctor asked this. This is the first time ever. I then noticed on the paperwork they sent home it said, "You should NOT have guns in your home for any reason. If you are a law enforcement officer and NEED to have a gun, it should be locked up. The ammunition for it should be locked up separately from the gun, preferably in a different room of the house."
This doctor has been our kids doctor for 3 years now. She has always been great, so it really took me by surprise when she asked that question. My wife, being the quick thinker the family, quickly said NO before I had a chance to open my mouth. I don't have a mind/mouth muffler so I tend to say whatever I am thinking. However; once the wife said NO I came out with, "Who's business is it WHAT I have in my house?" The doctor just looked at me. I then asked her if she had any alcohol in her house. Neither my wife nor I drink, so we don't. When she continued to just look at me I then told her that her alcohol she has in her house kills more people every year then guns ever do, so which is worse?? My wife again intervened and the appointment went forward.
Afterwards I told her we were done coming to her and promptly found a new doctor in town who doesn't asked dumb questions. He just checks the kids and does his J.O.B.
