For today's update.

August 30, 2013.

Today we celebrate and say :happy:titleist1 :band: :rimshot:

On this day we also note the first liftoff of the space shuttle, the second battle of Bull Run, and the arrival of Gen McArthur in Japan. Several years ago we were starting to see and hear the devastation from Hurricane Katrina.

You also share a birthday with Warren Buffet and Tug McGraw.

Notable deaths were Cleopatra, actor Glenn Ford, and tough guy Charles Bronson.

Sorry to NorthCandlewood and CoalNewbie for not posting on your recent birthdays.
I got tied up during the day and didn't get to properly wish you guys happy birthday.

But as I sit here watching paint dry in between coats, today we stop and say:

 ricoman2737 and Dennis :band: :rimshot:

This is the same day that the 1st Continental Congress met, the Arab terrorists took some Israeli Olympic athletes hostage in Munich, and Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme tried to shoot President Gerald Ford.

Some notable people born on this date are "outlaw" Jesse James, Freddie Mercury, and my favorite Raquel Welch. :woot:

But sadly on this day we lost Mother Teresa and Chief Crazy Horse was killed by a soldier at Ft. Robinson, Nebraska

Sorry about that EWF.......
On your birthday, the Star Bangled Banner was written and Hurrican Hugo approached the Leeward Islands before continuing through Puerto Rico and finally hitting Charlestown, S.C.

So today we will honor you belatedly and also say

 coalen and ytseman :band: :rimshot:

On this special day we also pay homage to the signing of the Constitution, the day the space shuttle was first unveiled, and on this day
Manfred vonRichthofen shot down his first plane. Who was he ??? Non other than the dreaded "Red Baron."

Notable people sharing this birthday are Kid Rock, Anne Bancroft (for our older members) John Ritter and Cassandra "ELVIRA" Peterson.

Sadly on this date we lost Spiro Agnew, Red Skelton and John Elder, who invented the Marine Compound Steam Engine. This invention used both low and high pressure steam to propel boats which in turn cut their coal consumption by 30-40% allowing longer trips between refueling.

Time to flip the page on the calendar again. Damn time is flying by..............

So today we get to say

 dcrane :band: :rimshot:

You share the day with the day the Model T was introduced, Yosemite Park was dedicated, Johnny Carson made his debut TV show, and the day that Roger Maris passed the big Bambino in home runs hit in a single season. (But there were more games/season than when Babe did it  )

You also share the same birthday as Jimmy Carter, Julie Andrews, Walter Matthau and ironically Mark McGuire.
