Hope your feeling better and yes, getting older bites. Why do you think I went back to more coal and less wood.

Anyway, since my mechanic told me I was risking catastrophic failure with the rusting frame on my Ford Ranger, I arranged a delivery from Casey this year. :P
200 a ton. I could only get a 1/2 ton at a time with the ranger, so by the time I figured in gas and wear and tear, it's close to a wash. I gave him a pretty decent
tip too.

Coal looks good.

The breaker closest to me is RR Coal Inc. (Used to be Meadowbrook Coal) out of Lykens, PA and they are selling rice for 170.00/ton picked up. A local guy here will deliver it for 185.00/ton and this is the same as last years price and is where I got my coal last year. I hear that RR Coal has much improved coal over what Meadowbrook had. It burned good for me. I have a ton left in the basement and didn't buy my stash yet for this season. I have 2 ash tubs of coal to test out from the old Harmony location and want to see how this burns compared to RR. By the way, the old Harmony location is currently selling for 170.00/ton picked up.

Just paid $215 ton bulk delivered

Akron Coal, same supplier I was using since starting one year ago, no problems.

I was paying $270 ton bagged, was getting 3 ton bagged at a time delivered, and then picking up
8 bags a month during the summer.
Nothing worse than having to lug down 120 bags weighing 50lb each down. TIMES 3
total of 10 tons carried by hand. Oh what fun it was.

Today, just had the bin filled with 4 ton bulk, and it is now going to be much easier and cheaper!!!! woot!
Saving 20% by going to bulk, just makes it easier and shorter to reap payback cost and cashola back into my pocket.

How much is heating oil? Who F***ing cares! haha

Gonna be a nice warm winter here at this residence.

Just had 2.5 tons of bulk Blaschak nut delivered this morning, $240 a ton from Kuntz & Son in Hummelstown PA.

I had ordered 3 ton at $230 a ton a few weeks ago. Truck has to back in my side yard so they need to wait for dry conditions in the yard to deliver. I got up at 6 this morning to go down and prep the bin and realized I had more left over from last year than I thought. Called Kuntz at 7 am--they were just starting to load my coal so I had them back it down to 2.5 tons so we didn't overflow my bin. That brought me below the price break, hence the extra $10 a ton.

Can't say enough about the Kuntz family. They are very helpful and work with you on delivery. I reminded them about a 25' spruce tree that's smack in the middle of the side yard by the coal bin window, and they brought extra chutes and props to jerry-rig it like they did last year. When I told them we're having that tree removed in a few weeks, they encouraged me not to do it just because of coal delivery. (I'm not--the tree blocks any access for equipment to the backyard--it's also leaning precariously, and the tree guys told me it's not long from falling into the house, if we get saturated ground followed by high wind.)

Anyway, they said they're "solid fuel delivery engineers" and can handle challenges like that. :D

They also have a dog that rides along on deliveries, which is pretty cool.

I'm running late ordering this year, but wanted to let the bin get down to clean out some of the fines. First time I've seen the floor of this 6 ton bin in 5 years since I built it. I was surprised, . . only a few inches deep, mostly in the middle under the end of where the coal shute always winds up.

Got 4 tons of nut delivered last week at $260.00/ton from Staelen's in Madison NY. That's down from $270.00 the last few years.

Anyone else seeing a drop in prices?

My coal dealer is also very respectful of how he backs in his 7 ton capacity truck. He has to cross two sidewalks in front of my house while backing in off a busy state highway. One sidewalk is pored concrete, the other is large slates from the 1800's that tee into the concrete one. He always makes sure to only cross the pored concrete areas.

Thanks for reminding me - time to oil the fleet! Great way to get rid of used motor oil. Costs me nothin but my time. 8-)

Back on topic, we're down to $289/ton from $299 last season. That was a shocker! Not often products in MA go DOWN in price, that's for sure!!
