Going to pick up a Hitzer this afternoon

Just my guess. The one above the load door always temps much higher than the surrounding parts. I think the gap behind it makes it work like
A heat sink and pulls air behind it for some natural circulation.

UPDATE: It's been about 1 month since my brother hooked up the stove. So far he loves the stove and wishes he switched from wood sooner. Stove does a good job heating his house. During the real cold days he's been running it at about 500 to 550 and burning 3 bags/day.

What he really likes about the coal stove is that it is so easy to operate. Stove runs by itself and does not require much tending. The only complaint is ash is little bit of a pain to remove.

If the stove is a floor model, why would you want the hot air to go down? (Unless the stove is mounted on a loft or balcony)

Not THAT far down, just downward at an angle, because of course being warm it will rise again.

I just can't figure what this thing is suppose to do or if it really does anything. With the way this stove is designed I would be surprised if it's just a decorative piece.
Just so that everyone knows, I e-mailed Dean at Hitzer. Dean said it was for decorative purposes only. It fills in a big blank spot. Go to the Hitzer site. You'll see a big blank spot at the front of the model 254 stove.

Decoration?! :?: :!: Isn't that contrary to the Amish philosophy? Next they'll be having tinted windows and sub-woofers in the buggies.

Disclaimer! I hope no one thinks I am making fun of the Amish. We could all use a little more of the Amish philosophy. :)

RB, I'm sure everyone understood you joking around. It's sad how our society now has to be "legally" correct, and can't even express an opinion, without fear of retribution from some thin skinned bleeding heart...

so true.

i live smack in the middle of the second largest centralized Amish, Amish Menonite, German Baptist, etc, etc. communities in the States and the youth DO have decorative LED lights, fenders, turn signals, tinted windows and full systems on their rigs.

which are by far and away the least of the self inflicted harms and shames they put themselves to.

we pray that they will come to the end of them selves and regain a sound path.
