I guess I should have given an update before now...they never did go with this specialist, and I'm really glad they didn't. The boy who was 7 did grow out of it but I don't know about the other two as they (parents) haven't mentioned anything for some time now and I would never mention anything about it unless they bring it up again.

My parents were foster parents and while is has nothing to do with abuse, neglect or income, having a lot of children go through their house meant bed wetters were part of life. My adopted sister was really bad, and like your Sister in Law they almost went with "an expert", at the going rate of $1500 dollar then...such was their frustration with my sister and bed wetting.

Here was the thing though...

The bed wetting expert brochure had this beautiful, fancy, multi-storied building on the cover...like you would see at a Doctor's Complex, YET there was no sign out front stating what the place had anything to do with the company. They concluded it was a scam because it would be like me going to a sheep farm in New mexico and taking a photo of thousands and thousands of sheep, and making it a brochure for my sheep farm here in Maine...misleading to say the least.

I am glad you SIL did not spend all that money for the expert, and I am super glad the child grew out of it.

My wife was a bed wetter as a kid. Her parents bought a mattress pad of some sort that detected when she began to wet the bed and gave her an electric shock  Barbaric, but it solved the problem in short order. Explains a lot about her personality!

I only wish that the electric shocks i got would have been to wake me up & prevent total bladder emptying .My parents must have heard about those electric shock pads & devised their own type of electric shock "treatment",Freetown Fred, you might have already guessed the rest of the story as i grew up on a farm.Yep,wet the bed at nite, get a shock treatment in the morning with the electric cattle fencer !! Every day occurrence in years up to age 10,less common but still frequent thru teens, occasional even in early 20's.We went thru rough times, dry times in the 60's on the farm, even at age 6 we were working in the barn b4 school,we got very little sleep time,I always fell asleep when sitting down, even slept thru our wedding sermon.Caught up on sleep somewhere along the way, still think if i had been able to sleep more back then it would have been less of an issue. No long term side effects from the treatments,so life is good ! :oops2:

I knew a HVAC service guy who was doing an install. The woman wouldn't let him upstairs to use the bathroom ($&itch) He relieved himself himself in a sump pit which was just enough to kick the float switch on mid stream. Apparently there was a short in the pump. he never did that again! Shocking! He was no worse for the wear and learned something about electricity,.....and a urine stream!

My brother wet his bed for years as a kid about the same age. Of course, he had the top bunk.

They grow out of it.
