Those pesky little white flakes of frozen water are falling all over the place again.

After hitting 80 degrees this weekend, we're back down into the upper 20's this afternoon. This weather is like a slow-motion Swedish sauna, . . . or maybe it's supposed to be some kinda shock therapy ?

Anyway, after doing tricks to keep the range going all weekend through the 80 degree weather, as the temps quickly dropped about lunch time today, I shook the grates and it took off like a blast furnace !

The left overs of big chunks of stove coal in the firebox were waiting to spring into action, once "Spring" turned back into Winter ! :D

Paul, I let the Harman go out two days ago; as it got too warm. After a good cleaning, and a light bulb in place, I thought I was done. WRONG!!! Thank God I have a little Pacific energy wood stove upstairs to keep the chill off in milder weather. Did I say milder ??? :( Anyway hopefully it'll be over in a few days. Keep the faith.

When it started warming up, I was temped to just let it go out too.

But then, when I heard more cold was coming right after the warm weekend, I thought it would be a good test to see how well sealing air leaks turned out. Up until now, I'd have really had to push it with open dampers to keep it going.

Now, no problem keeping the old girl going while slowed down so as not to roast us out of the kitchen. Even when it hit 80 Saturday and Sunday.

I was thinking about letting them go out this week to but then I saw the long range forecast. I slept through 80 + temps last night but glad I did not let it go out. tonight I will be thankful.

This is the Best Weather Ever ! We're getting Lake Effect Snow and it might be a Benefit this time out. Maybe,Just Maybe,The cloudcover might prevent us from hitting the forecast low of 18* tonight. It's 28* right now

The low will occur sometime between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM tomorrow morning. Accuweather is still calling for 18 degrees in Medina/Wadsworth, 17 degrees in Chardon, and 16 degrees in Middlefield.

I was really getting used to 50-60 degrees...this is quite a setback. 20 degrees with a strong North wind this morning, looks like we got about 2 inches of snow.

 it wouldn't be much help anyway, our snow started out really sloppy and then froze hard as a rock.

April can be a buster and we are living the proof of it. @26 degrees here this a.m. with a coating of snow, and the house was at 62 degrees when I got up at 5:00. In addition, the garden is wiped clean of life, early veggies done in. It certainly looks like a second planting will be in order. Thankfully the little Cawley wood stove in the living room is taking the edge off. Geez , I love to be warm and don't care where it comes from. This morning wood is my new best friend and very wonderful. I am happy to have some around. Mike

I didn't feel like restarting the stoker yesterday when we got home. The house was only a little cool at 69 and if it got any cooler the oil boiler could take the edge off. I fell asleep early and woke up to the sound of the oil boiler running continuously. Looked out the window and it was snowing sideways!!! I got up this morning and it was 20.

Got a starter bag and relit the LL Econo 1.

I am the cats new best friend now.

I was rustling around in the basement looking for odd pieces of wood to throw on the Hitzer for just little warmth and I came across a large metal box with writing on the side. I could not read it all as everything was rusty but it looked like someone and Maclain and then I swore it said oil central heater. I pushed a button and pumps started turning and squealing, zone valves rusted shut responded to a hammer. A large tanky thing was leaking but it put out heat. I rushed upstairs to google this and apparently people used to heat their houses with heating oil it actually worked quite well - fascinating. History is an interest of mine.
