Van Wert VA-600

My VA-600 is overheating due to too much airflow. I have had to reduce the air and am wondering how to change the auger speed to prevent wasting coal in the ashes. I do not have an operator's manual, so I don't know how to adjust it. Does anyone know how to locate a manual or how to change the setting? Thanks in advance for any help.

On the 1200 the only way to do this is by changing a pulley. Not sure about the 600 but the air adjustment is on the back, its the red slider partially seen to the left in this image:

What do you have the aquastat set at?

My aquastat is set at 190F for the high and at 150F for the low. It actually goes up to 200F after the fan shuts off and it goes down to about 140F. I guess the aquastats aren't exactly perfect with their settings.

The aquastats are accurate, but the boiler can continue to heat the water after it shuts down. Aquastats incorporate a differential or "drift", for example a Honeywell triple aquastat with a low setting of 170° will not fire the stoker until the water temperature drops to 160°.

hello my name is Brad have a Van Wert va 600 it was in the house when I bought it they supposedly had it totally rebuilt 5 to 7 years ago now the ring that goes around the top of the pot that shakes back and forth broke does anyone know where I can buy one and also can I run the stove with this being broke without doing damage to any other parts on the stove also does anybody know the name of the part that I am looking for I believe it's called a rocker ring any help would be grateful thanks

That is an ash shaker,designed to break any clinkers that form,can be removed & boiler will operate just fine. Type restoration of Van Wert 400 into the search box ,Member Scottscoaled talks about the ring,very interesting rebuild .

Yes, you can run that VW-600 very well with out the ash slice. A bolt on either side of the pot and it will come right off. Disconnect the linkage and plug the hole where it goes out to the stoker. That whole assembly isn't needed.
