Hand Fed Coal Stove: Crane 404

Post by dcrane » Sat. Apr. 19, 2014 7:29 am

Thanks to our good friend Mark giving me the "tip off", I picked up the best Crane Stove I've ever seen since building them 30 years ago! I was amazed at how perfect this thing was (as if right of the showroom floor), wrapped in a full parquet soapstone system (top, front, sides), brand new liner, complete 404 shaker system with original handle, ceramic glass panels with gaskets that looked brand new. It was sitting in the corner of a million dollar home with a red decorative light in it toothy It had the full original gold leaf paint job, this unit defiantly included the variable speed Fasco blower (thats the only piece that was missing from it but he's gonna keep looking for it). Needless to say the soapstone on the stove cost as much as the stove back in the day so its a very rare one to find! I been doing the happy dance all day :dancing:

Thanks Mark.... You da man!

OMG, Doug's been kidnapped and being held for ransom by having TOO much info in his profile.

it was going to happen sometime despite Fred's many denials. :D :D

as promised... here she is! fully armored in mint condition soapstone, original 1/4" ceramic glass view, original wooden handles with wooden handle shaker bar, mint condition grate system, mint firepot, original custom paint with gold leaf looks fantastic, still has the original stick on "Crane Stoves" sticker on the front of the ash lip  , even the upper removable baffle is perfect! I took a shot of the inside top and it appears to me this stove was used for wood only (maybe a cord or two)... so... Its not only the rarest, most expensive and best stove we put out but it also happens to be like new!

how the heck does the ceramic glass stay that nice burning wood? :eek2:

It really should be a manufacturer in PA for coal these days, Larry is a friend and also happens to be my neighbor so if he wanted to do them he would have mentioned it to me ;)
