Hello,
USHIP.com
Any body use them for shipping your coal.
Have any results?
Finding out it is hard to get coal out of KY shipping it 900 miles or so.
Got one for $4,250.00 too pricey for me.

uship might be a good idea for a few tons in a bulk container, but for a TT load I think you would be better off getting a referral from the mine or contacting a freight broker.

900 miles is quite a haul for bulk coal. If there isn't anything in your area to haul somewhere else, you are going to be paying the truck in both directions.

I tried U-ship too, for my TT load of Rice. But I got quotes that were 2 1/2 times higher than a regular trucking company. I did not accept any bids.
Went with a local trucking company.

 It may be worth a shot to check w/ Fastenal's 3PL...third party logistics.

Never used them for loose coal...but other loads have worked very well for me. :)

the best deal I found on shipping, was freightquote.com

type in what you are shipping, and weight, they give you multiple estimates from various freight companies, pay with a credit card, in a few days it's at your house

same if you sell a stove, they'll come pick it up. all you have to do is point at it, they load it up, if the buyer is willing to pay for the service

I'd say it will not work w/ fist size coal.

Hopper bottoms are usually used to haul grain, but can be used to haul other materials.

Live bottom trailers have a conveyor belt on the bottom of the trailer tub that pushes the load material out of the back of the trailer. The tub does not have to be raised to deposit the materials.

Here is a guy w/ a live bottom and he has hauled coal for members here:

A live bottom is also known as a walking floor, the entire trailer floor is made of approx. 1" strips that run front to back, these strips are connected to a hydraulically run "crankshaft that moves them up & down, back & forth . That eccentric action is what moves the material out of the trailer, not a conveyer belt. Might try goggle to see more info on walking floor & how it works.

Yes, Dave is correct... Hostetler's is a walking floor, and not a live bottom. :)
Thanks David ;)

before shipping coal long distances, a cost comparison has to be done, to see if it's even worth it. if the cost of the coal plus shipping is more than using the available city gas line, it makes no sense. the next move would be, supplement with wood, as it's usually available locally.
