KA-6 Draft Hole in Door.

I know the hole in the door of my Keystoker is to measure the over fire draft, but the hole is only through the door not through the insulation and metal plate on the inside of the door. Will the draft reading me accurate I have to assume that is restricting air flow and will affect the measurement.

I saw this in the manual,
but it doesn't say anything about the insulation or the metal plate.. I would think the mano probe will need a clear "view" of the firebox to get an accurate reading.A draft reading must be taken by inserting draft gauge in 1/4” hole in fire door. Draft is best checked when chimney is warm, so fire should be lit at least a half hour. Draft must be set at.-02 when stoker unit is idle. (Adjust barometric damper to obtain this reading on gauge.)
While stoker unit is running, the draft should be set approximately -.01. (Air intake on stoker is used as an adjustment to obtain this reading.)

Put a candle or your choice of smoking materials near the hole and see what happens. If the flame or smoke are drawn into the stove, I would think not. Is the insulation solid or fibers? The pressure should be consistant throughout the firebox.

My thoughts are similar to yours that the insulation is block the "air flow" and needs to be cleared.

The insulation is very dense, it looks to me like compressed, tightly woven fiberglass. Not like the fiberglass insulation in your attic.

Does this Keystoker have an oil burner? If so, that insulation is probably to protect the door from excessive heat. Give Keystoker a call and see what they think...you might be able to drill a hole through the insulation, but I wouldn't try it without knowing how brittle it is.

It just filters the reading, not going to affect it's accuracy.
We're not talking cubic feet per minute of flow here...it is just a static pressure reading.
