Read this on internet somewheres, size, trim case to length, then split neck on case to just below neck curve. place one of bullets in neck, place in rifle send bolt home, as you do bullet will rest on rifling laands, extract bullet and that will give OAL to land contact or that PARTICULAR bullet. goes in snug by hand and pulls out snug. So should work. So working up some rounds and varying OALm using same powder charge, primers and maker brass according to the Gumpster, I should see group differences based on OAL to land clearnce. Now I need to load groups of 3 rounds and test this out. Think a micrometer seater is in order, make it easier, quicker to change seating depths.

Did you find the twist of that barrel yet? Remington should be pretty standard unless it's a very old one. To push that 105, you are going to have to pick a powder, and work your way up. You should see the groups tighten up. Watch for high pressure signs and know what they are, Flat primers, flowing back into the firing pin, hard opening of the bolt, stretched brass. OAL I would just touch the lands and back off just a bit. I would think the powder charge will show you what the rifle likes, then after that adjust the oal up or down a bit. Use magnum primers if the powder calls for it, it used to be ball powders needed magnum primers. I am a rem 9 1/2 guy, in the 22-250 I used br which I thought were milder yet more consistent through the ohler 35p.
