He's talking about Hudson coal breaker. I had often in the past had pieces of wood mixed in, never gave me a problem, with your stove it might be different. Last few tons was in May of this year, actually the coal was nicer as no wood I can see, sizing is the same as it always was, very consistent and my timer is as low as it goes and no outfires this summer. Will most likely be getting 4 more ton for the winter.

i was just down to jeddo for a few loads, rice/buck couldn't be any nicer looking, I got a load of pea for myself and it had alot of wood mixed in. looking to get a load of nut for a friend of mine, but I really didn't like what I saw down there.(looked like a lot of wood mixed in) does it really matter with a hand fed stove? this is all part of a learning curve, if you know what I mean.

I have a handfed stove and only used Jeddo for the past 2 years. They strip the coal from mines across the street that were worked many years ago and were timbered to keep the mines safe. When they strip mine the coal, they are taking the timbers with it :) as well. When processing the coal from the dirt, rock, etc., the wood floats with the coal and is almost impossible to get out. When I get wood in my coal I just throw it in. It burns too. I wouldn't give up on Jeddo, it burns to well with high heat and low ash. :)

I stopped by there 2 weeks ago and got a little truck full...a test batch. It looks ok. I grabbed handful and noticed pieces of slate mixed in. I wasn't that surprised, however I have not had a chance to burn any yet.

Price was $170 a ton

Next trip will be to Jeddo.

Sounds like my dilemma. I was a long time UAE/harmony burner. Bought 4 tons of Lehigh last year, loved it but had a lot of fines for my hand fired. So I was on the fence between Jeddo and Susquehanna. Loved the sizing of the old Hudson but the coal there was ehhh. So, bought 4.5 tons of Jeddo on August 18, looks great but yes... Lots of wood mixed in. Maybe next year I will try the new Susquehanna if I hear some good reviews.
Fall is almost here... Really!

Not having any issue with old hudson. Recieved 3 ton buck and it looks good. Stoker doesn't like idling no matter what coal I put in it. I'll be able to tell better in colder part of the year, but for now no big difference.

Gents when you see wood in the coal that means the drag line is taking out coal Where the old miners worked .Every time I bought coal an saw No Wood it was inferior coal .The wood is olt timbers mixed in with coal .It is not Not careless preparation at the breaker .Plumb if you got Jeddo you will like it .Sooo look for wood in your coal ill bet you will agree with me .Jack
