Shame fill sorry for the people. But one big coal mine in Green County Pennsylvania will shutdown in 2015. I think close to 500 workers will be laid off. All so Mine in W.Va. Hope they can move on to some thing else. Probably the gas drilling. Towns will suffer. I've had a Newmac combination coal and oil furnace for a couple years. The company says good to burn the Anthracite coal in it. I did one ton the first year, but due to budget I kept burning Bituminous coal. I wounder if anthracite will go up in cost faster then it has been if more and more Bit mines shut down.

500 workers at Bit coal is for electric generation...and bit coal is cheaper priced at the volume bought for generation than what you pay for your bit for heating.
Residential coal sales will not be effected by the big mines closing...Residential coal sales are but a drop in a bucket.

The coal fired electric plants around here have been hurting. And we (company I work for) has shut down a bunch of coal units in the SW PA and Northern WV area. Mostly due to EPA regs and lower demand/price of wholesale electric.
