Axeman Andersons are an exception to that method.mdrelyea wrote:Tricky, but not impossible. Count the number of revolutions on the feed auger. Run it into a 5 gallon bucket. Count the number of revolutions needed to fill the bucket, weigh the bucket and then divide by the number of revolutions. Once you know how many lbs/revolution then you only need to track the number of revolutions with some sort of counter.McGiever wrote:It's tricky to actually gauge input lbs. when not drawing coal from a "hopper" or "batch bin".
I'm referring to bulk bins.
AAs use hollow augers and spin irregardless of of whether the fire pot needs little, lots, or none, coal just tumbles and tumbles and gravity will fill any void on top when ash leaves out the bottom.
Your described method is dandy where the auger operates with positive displacement per revolution.
