Boy that stove was made for that spot. The low temps at night have motivated me as well and my Vigilant is ready!

Got to tinker a little this weekend between the "other" honeydoos.

I scored a load of bluestone so I set some in mortar below the stove and built a 1.8 ton capacity bin in the basement. I will probably store some outside as my orders will be 2 ton at a time.

Next weekend I hope to finish the stone work and maybe slip the liner in....

We had a change in plans for the stone work. We were going to use soapstone for the mantle and sides, it looks like we are going to use bluestone instead. I will be making a coal run in about to weeks to PA to Lehigh Anthracite http://lehighanthracite.com/. I was quoted $170 a ton picked up.

Got 3000 lbs of coal from PA yesterday. Ran the liner last night. I found out that I am really not afraid of heights but more afraid of falling  I dropped the stove pipe in and ran my first and second small fire using a bag of oak charcoal I had laying around. I still have some stone work to do but it is coming along. Here are a couple pics.

I would be afraid of falling too if my house was in that position. Looking good.

...I fell off a 40 ft ladder once,..I was only on the second rung
Lookin' good and jack frost is watching. What kind of heat did you experience with the charcoal, and did you flip it into indirect?
You will be pleased with a full load of coal in her belly, I love the fact that a power outage will not stop me from staying warm :)
How the hell did the coal stay in the truck?

The damper on the left side of the stove has 2 setting, by opening the top load door you can see the damper, indirect it will block the flue pipe and causing the exhaust to travel down both sides and up the back, very similar to a base burner. Direct is the other setting and you will be able to see the flue collar, this is used for start up, shaking down and loading, and I use it for wood burning with a mpd on my pipe. I don't want wood soot and creosote in the indirect passages...that's just me.
