I almost hated to put the covers on mine...but it was well worth it for a cooler basement and coal savings.
I'm a big fan of the black look too. They were out of the black where I get my paint so......... Besides, how can you see the reflection of the great big smile with the black.

Yeah, still without heat. Good thing I insulated this place well when it was built. It was cold enough to frost a couple nights in a row. It didn't get too bad in the house. The trade off with the wife complaining about the lack of heat was that she would snuggle right up close at night :) Keep warm ;)

Thanks for turning the pic's Rob
Some how the EFM gods have been smiling on me on this one. There was this refurbisher out of Fair Haven that hooked me up. :) Man he is setting the bar pretty high for a refurb! Don't think mine look and run as good as the ones he's putting out.
Thanks for the help George!

I'm going to need all that favor. I went to pour a extension on my pad. It measured 2 feet by three feet. The bagged cement said 2 square feet to the bag. After two bags were mixed, it was apparent that it would take two more to fill up the form. Had a big idea that a couple shovels of coal ash would get me where I had to go. It worked sorta. Ended up putting too much water into the mix. Waiting to see how the new and improved coal launch pad will turn out. :)

Scott ???? Frozen yet ? Or working feverishly at getting your boiler project to fire-up time?? We have been heating at night here & most days at least in the a/m,can't imagine what it must be like up there with no heat.

Scotty will be just fine. It isn't cold until it is '0' for ten days or more. This is still 'skinny dippin' weather, relax, we don't worry about heat up here........

I have it on good authority that the 520 is up and running.

Thanks WN & Rob, good to hear that he has coal heat again. It will be interesting to see the comparison of the 520 vs the former VW400.

Finally can come to a comparison between the EFM520 and the Van Wert 400. Nothing to compare. They are both sweet, sweet boilers. The Van Wert was noticeably more efficient with the coal. Stingy you might say. Whisper quiet. The EFM? Still the best. Right now I'm officially in the 1 month between taking out the ashes. I looked in the fire box past the stoker tonight and there is still a little room. Lehigh coal, Hydrostat 3250, and EFM. Works great!
