I keep hearing/reading of great reveiws on Kimmels Coal quality.
Also it has been stated that in years past Kimmel's was not always so good.

It may or may not of been previously posted here, but a few years back Kimmels did buy Summit Coal of Good Springs, PA. Summit had been noticed little on these pages compared to other names but none the less had some very good coal. I burned their rice one season about 4 years back as a nearby dealer always stocked Summit. Now I require pea size and that same dealer doesn't stock any pea size.

Just thought I inform all where the NEW Kimmels is coming from. ;)

Was earlier Kimmels white or red ash?

The new Kimmel's from the old Summit Coal will be a Red Ash.

I think it was white ash...and this stuff is without a doubt red ash. As a mater of fact I just walked in the door with 8 more bags, my 2 tons are still en route.

About 25 years ago I was buying Kimmel for my hand fed. Quite honestly I know it did not clinker up much, as shook down easy, but wasn't really paying much attention to ash color  Who new there was an ash difference  I just new it burned better for me, no one else to talk to but my old farmer friend which ran a small store and sold coal to pay for heating his big old farm house. He liked me and often let me pickup coal and pay him next time through, I earned his trust.

I talked with a Kimmel's rep last week, they bought the breaker at Good Springs but are still pulling coal from the same seam as they always have. He said coal seam quality comes & goes, not his exact words but close enough. They only use the Good Springs breaker to prep the coal & sell their bulk coal from there. Their bagged coal comes from the Wiconisco site. They did not purchase any new coal mine or seam with the Good Springs breaker.

320# in bags would be a super feat,i did 300# in tractor wheel weights when I was 17/18 yrs old, that may have contributed towards the crushed disc at age 31.Now I have it figured out that they make things to lift heavy stuff. These days I wish coal bags all were 40# instead of 50# :)

I was just at the old Summit breaker in Good Springs 11-25-2014.The sign out in front still says Meadowbrook coal. The scale man told me they only sell rice coal in bulk on Saturdays but they had pea size if I wanted it. Kimmels has a bagging plant there.

I declined the pea coal and headed to Glen Burn-Harmony Mine the old UAE because I had absolutely had no issues with that coal last year. I got two ton of rice and again no issues and it's burning fine, still 170.00 a ton. Made the check out to Mallard Contracting like before and in and out in 20 minutes. I love being loaded with that skid steer compared to other breakers.

I burned Summit for two years when it was Summit and it was decent coal so if Kimmels is getting it from the same mine then it should be a good product.
