hi all,

been usin mag for about 5 yrs and use duct I had blocked front air vent in past with loose insulation but it degrades and end up in small pieces in just a few months. last season I started just wrapping thin strips in tin foil and stuffing into vent - doesnt block it completelty.

i may try stove rope if I can find the right thickness any other good ideas that wont require machine tools

On my Mag Stoker, I wired 3 pieces of 3/4" round rope seal together and layed it inside, then pushed it up against the front. That should last forever.

On my Alaska, I used a small piece of duct board to do what you described.

Harman's advice is to "block off the front blower opening with a piece of heavy fiberglass rope. Insert rope through the 6" duct opening and push front to block off the front air passage."

I don't have a Mag anymore; if you measure the height of the front blower opening that would be a good starting point. I think that rope is available in diameters up to 1 1/2 to 2 inches. If availability turns out to be a problem, my first thought would be to try a piece of angle iron with some window gasket material (again, I'm not looking at one, so I can't promise how well that would work).

For the third time;

On my Mag Stoker, I wired 3 pieces of 3/4" round rope seal together and layed it inside, then pushed it up against the front. That should last forever.

Good job Jimbo!

The 3/4" rope seal is common at most hardware stores. That's why I used it.
