What was your first thought when you discovered the leaking generator dumping gasoline on the floor?
Holy SH*T, This ain't good !!!!!!!!!!

I was lucky that it was just inside the overhead door so opening the overhead door allowed a huge slug of fresh air into the garage. Also made it real easy to very rapidly remove the offending generator and drag it to the other side of the garage and keep it outdoors. Then I had the time to open all the windows and other doors to flush out any trace of gas fumes.

I used to teach boating safety and the dangers of fuel in the bilge. we used to put just 3 drops into a "pringles" can at the beginning of the class and let it sit for an hour before creating a spark that would shoot the can lid clear across the room. It drove home the danger of just a small gasoline leak and what it can do inside the bilge of a boat.

I submit for review my method of auger fight restoration w hile cutting flights off and replacing and tack welding is simple enough , I built up my sharp flights segments with tig welding and then ground them flat. I did not mic them for proper diameter but it seems as though my flight where worn outside of the auger piping like in the bottom of the pot , where it seems to be subject to a lot of abrasive action .

Bob,

You are one step closer to a lifetime of laziness!

Sure, you guys had to invest some time now to build the skids, but your time will be paid back in spades.

1. You will be going for weeks without worrying about feeding coal.
2. When you do change a skid, you will change a months worth in 5 minutes with no manual lifting.
3. As the bags dispense while sealed, you will not have coal dust to clean up.
4. If you ever get a clogged auger, you will not have to dig out a coal bin to get to it.
5. You will get bulk coal price instead of bagged price.
6. You will not have bags to throw out.
7. You can store some of the skids outside (the bulk bags will degrade quickly with uv, so cover them with a black tarp or black uv bulk bag
covers).

The next question is, your coal dealer does have a truck with a lifting dump body, right?

The only bad news is that you will have to maintain your gym membership. Lifting ashes is not much of a workout!

Progress Wed and today.

Began moving 5 tons of free rice coal from my friends property (he's now in nursing home).
I have 5 extra bags we're manually shoveling the coal from the coal bin into each bag, using his front end loader to load into pickup bed, about 500-800 lbs per bag and transporting 2 bags per trip by pick up truck. Its an 1992 truck - I don't want to overload it.
Luckily its only a 10 mile round trip. Estimating 10 trips to move the coal. This is helping them more than me.
Then using JD955 with loader to empty into pallet bags.

Here's some photos of unloading the bags from the pickup and dumping into the pallet bags.

Photo of boiler now on base with stove pipe installed into chimney.

Pretty good workout today. :)

Nice install! Just want to point out that the coil hasn't been used. There are two little plastic factory plugs installed. Sweet! :D

Weekend progress - copper plumbing completed.

Reusing some of the copper salvaged from the previous installation - new pieces to replace some odd things we encountered. Replaced pressure relief valve and shut off valve and other pieces.

I think my plumber got the plumbing layout correct. Or at least I think it meets the factory recommendation for using both ports for return and thermosyphon loop from top of boiler to return ports.

My plumber and I had a discussion about the the pump location he likes the pump on the output of the boiler pushing down boiler water down the pex; vs. the way it was plumbed pushing the return water into the return ports. We agreed that it worked in the previous install - so leave it as is.

Next steps - threaded rod supports for copper piping of EXTROL®
Boiler System Expansion Tank and Taco circulator pump; electric and pex connection

Some great progress today.
Yea, the first full bag.
More trips yet to come to fill the other bags.
Here's some photos of the first full bag.

Waiting on plumber to complete the plumbing and electric connections.
Oh my it is coming together.

I appreciate all the help, support and encouragement I've received along the way.

What's the story with that crooked expansion tank?

the story with that crooked expansion tank -
rough handling during deinstallation and transfer to my home.
If you think the tank could be compromised and should be replaced let me know.
Had not thought about it other than it does look sloppy.
Please let me know what you think.
I certainly don't want any future problems that could be addressed now.

Progress today.
Got myself in a pickle the other day while placing the boiler on the base the other day,
the loader bucket sheared off the temperature pressure gauge on the boiler.

Today my friend Troy came by with his easy-out.
He made it look easy, took last than a minute.
What a relief.

Photos -
before - broken off temperature / pressure gauge
after - no more broken off temperature / pressure gauge
