Schuylkill County Pa, home of the coal yards and breakers. One of the coal company's also sell oil....the price...$2.35

Heating oil would need to be $1.27/gal. to match TS Kimmels and that does not include the electricity for my furnace blower trying to keep my home at 76*...oh and what price do you put on the radiant heat warming me to the bone as soon as I come in the door

For me in SE CT if it hits 2.25 a wash and save the coal until oil goes back up. For me it is a dollar per BTU thing not a religion or cult. Yes I enjoy the challenge but the goal is keeping warm without going broke. Just checked the low listed at 2.55 here if it goes down 30 cents the coal stove goes cold and save the coal for the eventual increase. Yes I like the warm walls and constant heat but could live without the ashes and poker slicing the grates.

Nice that fuel prices go down ... it also lowers pricing on high mileage cars too so if one is interested in a hybrid or other gas miser now is the time to go price 'em. I'll bet the Chevy Volt could be had for a good price now.

Coal v. Oil ? Cost is my #1 goal too. But my boiler is an 80% efficient one ... it still heats my water. Oil needs to be about $1.70 ... there is value in not having to deal with coal, ash, etc for people too.

At my cost for bulk coal being $180 per ton, #2 oil would have to go to $1.25 to approach the equivalent cost per the heating calculator on this forum.

At $180 a ton for nut coal, that is $12.50 per unit. With #2 oil at $1.25 gallon, that is 12.88 a unit. I'll switch to oil when it gets down to $1.25 a gallon but until then it's coal for me.

I will continue to heat with coal no matter how low oil goes. First , I have no choice as coal burners are the only heat we have. Second, we made a choice in 1999 to not burn oil or propain ever again for heating.Third, I am constantly reminded of how politics sets the price of oil,propain & natural gas.I am constantly reminded of this factor every time I see gasoline prices.When I get ripped of by something like oil prices,i do not forget.When a momentary drop in prices come along I will not fall for the bait & switch tactics that is so common with oil.Some will switch to oil if it drops to $1.50 but will not switch back to coal if oil goes to $1.60. Oil had its chance,we have been gouged for long enough by politics & big oil.If oil went to $.50 I still would be loyal to coal.

Even if temporary, the drop in heating oil prices will be a nice change for a lot of people. Especially after hitting $4 per gallon last winter.

I burn black rocks for 4 reasons and could care less of the price of oil no matter how low it goes.

1). I'm putting money directly in the wallet of another American citizen who works hard for a living.

2). I minimize as much as possible how much of my money gets sent to eventually fund Muslim terrorists.

3). A lot of the oil I do burn in my car and house is sumped kerosene from the aircraft I maintain that would get disposed of anyway.

4). To me, burning rocks is a cult!

If someone developed a coal fired steam car I'd buy it
