W&C, do you use coal as well as chicory or just coal alone? 8-) I can remember my parents adding chicory but don't recall what it did, way before I got hooked.

Roasted chicory was used as a coffee extender or substitute when coffee was a luxury.

I find that a little Anthracite in the brew pot purifies the coffee...makes it more flavorful. :)

Yeah, those big black beans in his picture are hell on the grinder. W&C likes his simple ... beans and water just like how I like mine :)

Chicory is added to stretch the coffee beans. It changes the taste to something other than coffee but it's enjoyable IMHO. It's common to have chicory in the coffee grinds in the south, especially Louisiana area. I've seen cans of the blend up here too.

Chicory is/was also added to tea to make it last longer. Store items such as sugar, coffee and other things we take for granted now, were very expensive relatively speaking when I was growing up in the Rural South. You did not waste these things. I remember that getting Brazil Nuts and Tangerines in my Christmas Stocking was a special treat.

Received my replacement gasket today, I had my doubts but I installed it and the CoffeeMaster works! At least with water and no coffee grounds. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning when the ground beans are in the mix.

Hey Rob, I think I saw your coffee pot in that film!

I remember those coffee cans with the little key. I clearly remember my dad pulling the key from it's home on the bottom of the can and hooking it on the tab and giving it a few turns and then handing it off to me to finish opening it. I still have some old ones around.

I know for a fact several members are on the prowl for some of these classics. Maybe it's time for a tour of my Coffeemaster salvage yard.

Ok everyone I know this is a old thread but after looking at my old PM's and thanks to Wood'ncoal for turning me on to this thread(and old vacuum pots as well) I figure I would post pics of mine.
The C30A with cloth, SS filter, and a stand is for the house.

I also have another C50 I bought on Ebay with bad chrome on the inside,it works but I think it adds a metallic taste to the coffee
I love the coffee taste that the pots brew and use them every weekend,no time during the week or I would use them every day.Keepaeyeonit

Had some friends turn me onto the Aeropress last year while I was searching for a single cup coffee maker that didn't require pods, cords and a machine that grows fungus inside. Best cup of coffee I've ever had even with cheap beans. I've sold dozens of these since when friends come over and I make them a cup.

Less than $25 on Amazon
