Pardon me for being a little hard headed, but are you saying you blow out your chimney with a shot gun? :?

Chimney fires, or chimney blockages? Or both?

A "judge" is not a shotgun. It's a handgun that shoots shotgun shells

I do not find this hard to believe at all from a wood burner.

When you purposely burn a fuel in a manner that is commonly known to plug up your chimney and catch on fire, how far away from that is shooting your chimney with .410 buckshot to clear out a creosote buildup?

Wow. This is the first I've heard this technique. Does it take many shots? Which works better? The slugs or the bird shot?

When u tie a rope on a brick, and drop it down your chimney and it hits soild, you don't have a lot of options. Bird shot does not work well. Slugs took 4 shots. Kinda fun once u get past the nerviousness

If your chimney is plugging up to the point that a brick won't bust through it, then you've got to change your firing technique before you have a major flue fire.
Also, you're gonna damage your chimney if you keep blasting through it with a shotgun.

For a longer consistent burn cycle, try using bigger sized coal (lump coal).

BTW, I was looking at buying a "judge" a couple years ago but didn't...maybe in the future ;)

When a firearm is fired straight up, it will likely come down close to the same spot. just saying...

Find something heavier than a brick, or clean it weekly. Something so you don't have to shoot up it. You will damage the chimney if you havent already. Please don't take this as a scolding as you gotta do what you gotta do, but look for another way, even if it isnt as fun.

Sometimes it's plugged up...other times it's squeaky clean.
