ok I have been using m y hitzer 608 stoker and coal-troll for about 3 yrs now. Last cold snap it started acting funny so I adjusted the min/max rates. Since owning it I have had it set at Min 10 and Max 49 and it has run like a top. Now last night it went out. I adjusted min to 11 and lowered max to 41 and with a FR of 99 (trying to raise house temp to normal) it is running fine...any ideas what could cause this?

Does it push the coal over a grate full of holes? Maybe they need good a cleaning.

I wondered that too, but I just cleaned it a few weeks ago and this years coal has been extremely hard. when it was really cold it was pushing harder chunks of burnt coal than normal. It wasn't the normal fine ash that I usually get...if this helps.

How was it acting funny? if it went out, fire went out? the coaltrol went out?
something happened. adjusting the feed rates seems odd if its been working fine for a while.

If you need more heat, you need to raise the max up without pushing hot coals off the end.

Maybe lost power? and it reset? check all your connections, power cords, etc......

If it was really cold, you coal may be burning a bit hotter with more draft, may be more chunky, I've noticed that with mine when it's really cold. sometimes small coal cakes or chuncks will appear.

the fire went out over night. I adjusted the settings back last night to what they used to be

min 10
max 49
temp 75

I was wondering if changing all those at once may have goofed it up. Tonight I

Min 11
Max 40
temp 75

seems ok so far, I guess time will tell

It doesn't sound like the thermostat satisfied if the Feed rate was 99.

Thats just weird if you lost your fire. Something happened. maybe it jammed, and it couldn't push any more, or something overheated and shut down and the fire went out. if the coaltroal was still running and all the blowers/motors were still running and pushing unburnt coal into the pan, something happened. unless you had a power outage for a bit and it lost the fire overnight.?

If you have a full grate of fire with very little ash, your Max is set about right.

I bumped my max back to 33 and I have the coal out right at the end of the grate with burning coal falling into the pan.

Min 11
max 33
house temp at 76
FR is falling back it is now 93 and has been heating the house up from 70 (where my backup heat pump furnace is set). Raised the house 6 degrees in 3 1/2 hrs.

FOUND THE PROBLEM!!! The feeder motor for the shovel is pretty darn strong. It bent the back of the shovel out enough so I was not getting the full stroke to feed the fire. Adjusted the min up and works great. Will be fixing and readjusting next fall.
