This morning I looked at the coal that has been sitting next to the stove all night, (as usual), and to my surprise it has a white coating over it. The normally black shinny is gone and the black that I can see is dull in appearance. The coal is also kinda' stuck together, what could it be?

As you can see the coal is still sloped in the hod from pouring in the stove last night, when normally it levels off when placed back on the floor.

No, bagged Kimmel from TSC, but I think you're on to something. I had a almost empty bag of ice melt on top of this stack of coal and we had some warm temps last week end

Could this also be a result of salt?

until recently the inside of the lid was normally a gray/black color and now a bright white.

Holy crap! I hope its not a metal chimney, and don't think it is, that it is hooked to.

There must be some highly toxic chemical that would take/burn this off. Or maybe burn it at 900 with pine like that dude in the video link.
