Wow, I've taken a lot for granted for 27 years. I have been lucky to always have Blaschak/Tamaqua pea delivered from 2 different suppliers. I have never had a jam or clinker that I can speak of.

I did buy some bulk bagged non-Blaschak at the end of last year, it did give off red ash but still no clinkers.

I just finished 4 bags of Blaschak nut for the below zero nights. Much less ash than the pea, but I wasn't aware of the quick consumption and lost the fire. Never too old to learn.

I burn lignite coal (which has more impurities than anthracite) and I deal with clinkers daily when it's cold outside. Here's my morning routine:
