Here try it this way. I go to the store and buy a 6 pack of beer for $6 bucks.. it's 8 miles each way in my Jeep that gets 16 miles per gallon. Gas is expensive right now at $3.00 a gallon. I split the 6 pack with my neighbor while we talk about coal who insists on giving me $4.50 for the cost of the beer and the gas to go get it.

Dang, $33 to run the koker seems like a lot. 1/3 of my bill to one appliance, but gota have it . Furthermore, not to hijack the thread like I have, but I've replaced every bulb with a LED bulb. Maybe that'll offset some of that expense.

This is how one finds the kWHr. Rate for delivered to the house total cost of electric to any appliance.Lightning wrote:$.06 per KW? That don't seem right.. To get your actual cost per KW, divide your total bill amount by the total KWs used. Mine is around $.15 per KW. Sometimes more.

I simply divide the dollars owed to the utility for the month by the KWH's that I have used.
Say I use 500 KWH for the month, and my monthly electric bill for that month is $75.
Them my bottom line cost for the electricity (the only cost that concerns me) is:
75$/500 KWH= $0.15/KWH

The delivery seems like it would throw off the actual price to the particular appliance. The delivery cost is being spread out amongst the entire house. So the total is "$.15" but the electric co. charges ".05" per kWh. therefore the other $.10 is delivery cost amongst every other light, TV, DVD, etc., including the koker(in my case). Since there's no way to exclude delivery price for each appliance, I would say exclude that price altogether and use what the elec. co. prints on the bill what they charge you per kWh. Is any one frustrated with me yet?

A KWH is a KWH, no matter how or where it is being used, or how many are being used. My electric bill currently comes to $0.145/KWH delivered if I use 300 KWH per month or if I use 900 KWH per month (or anything between) . Regardless of how you cut it, or where it goes, or why, my cost is $0.145 per KWH. Why should I have any concern that the electricity portion itself is only $0.07?

If I sell you 22 tons of coal for $22.00 ($1.00/ton)fuccillo111 wrote:The delivery seems like it would throw off the actual price to the particular appliance. And charge you $6666.00 dollars to deliver it.
How much did the coal cost you?
And if you sold 2 tons of your coal to your neighbor, Would you charge him just $2.00?

Thanks for clearing things up guys. I do understand that the power company charges you a total of kW used and delivery fee. I just felt like $13 made more sense than $33. $33 just seems so excesive that I figured I was calculating things wrong as I did use the $.16 at first and figured that was wrong, again because that seems like a lot to me. On a positive note I was underestimating the savings on the LED's as I was using a lesser kWh amount...so that's cool.
