It seems a lot of the replies concerning "radiant", are describing a heating system mounted "under" the floor. But I think CC is talking about a freestanding stove, vs. a furnace, or stoker. One of my old boss just built a large garage and loft next to his house, and used "radiant" floor heating, and he describes it as the nicest feeling he's ever experienced, as far as heating goes.
