This week I needed lots of heat for a birthday present request. If you see a set of long blacksmiths tongs in your travels you might grab them. I was lucky , I have a set of tongs and an anvel . It was much faster than the torch.

Stoker Coal Boiler: Gentleman Janitor GJ-5, Van Wert VA-600, Axeman Anderson130 X3.
Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood

That's funny, Last weekend when I was testing out my Losch grate as a junk mail burner I thought, "If I ever need to bend or shape a piece of steel, I can use this!".

You could get a chunk of steel white hot in there.

I guess I need to get a set of tongs!

Yup, just like grandpa did it ! 8-)
GF saw an old hanging light she just had to have , sooooooooooo in the coal fire the steel went.
It worked out great, I'd def use that set-up again.

You know staring at a stoker burning strong is just so mesmerizing. Or is it just me :oops:

I put steel in the 30-95 all the time. Yes, much faster than torch.

I've bent up some steel after getting it hot in my hand fed too.. works just like down town.. :lol:
