I can also light my bit coal with a little cardboard if necessary, some wood is easier though.
That right there can make many an ugly stove look pretty good ! ;)

And if it doesn't do it for ya,...... just turn out the lights, enjoy the warmth, and think about the money your saving. :D

Don's lucky. Compared to where I live, coal is almost free.

That's why I'm using this very inefficient Clayton furnace that is nothing but a pain in the arse. Furnace was cheap (parts are expensive though), and the coal is cheap. I've used 7.5 ton's so far(I'm still burning) , so I'll have spent 680 dollars for heat from Sept. to May. I can't complain too much.

I'm pretty sure you can burn it in CT, it is just illegal to sell in CT.

Pretty sure,... not if you try to put them in the stove, either.

So, if only the "selling" of bit coal is illegal in CT, is it like sales tax in many states where sales tax is do only if the "point of sale" is within that state?

What happens if you order a tractor trailer load of bit coal from PA, pay by credit card over the phone, or mail them a check (point of sale is then in PA, not in CT), and have them deliver it to you ?

No tax on home heating fuels in CT. Yes, they want you to pay taxes on out of state purchases, phone, mail and internet orders but no one does. The reason for the bituminous ban is CT allows no fuels over 1% sulpher content.

CS,
So it's a ban on burning bit coal, not on the sale of that coal ?

Dave,
Yeah, doesn't surprise me that states want the sales tax, even if the sale was outside the state.

When I got my NYS tax sales tax number for the business, there was no mention in any of the info from NYS Tax Dept. about not collecting sales tax for out-of-state sales. I only found out about the "point of sale" limitations when I called up the tax dept. to find out what sales tax to charge a customer in Rhode Island, that I was shipping back a car part that I had rebuilt for him. That's when they finally told me that the sales tax is only due if the out-of-state customer pays the bill while within NY State.
