It's been a tough month in the Boston area. Upwards of 8 feet of snow, not including the snow coming tonight. I thought I would post some winter railroad operations. The youtube video is the Boston and Maine plowing snow. The pictures are the plows still in use clearing snow for the Boston commuter service. They took my conductor off his regular job to be the conductor on the plow train. I got the better deal. I got to move sets of equipment around the yard last Sunday when service was cancelled. The MBTA inherited alot of ex Boston and Maine equipmnet when they bought the commuter routes. The proceeds helped the Boston and Maine during bankruptcy. Seeing what happened to a once proud railroad I wonder if the Boston and Maine would have been better off if they were absorbed into Conrail like the other bankrupt new england railroads. Side note. Usually we don't see enough snow to warrant bringing the plows out. You know it's bad when they go through the trouble of running actual plow trains. Enjoy.

Traction power provided by Detroit Diesel. Getting a little teary eyed. First diesel engine I ever worked on. Over 15 years since I touched one.

Do you work for MBTA? I have a friend who has been there about 17 years.

I have no need for those stinkin sissy wedge plows
when I have one of these in my locomotive barn :x

"Fluffy" lost his rotary plow operating permission after he was caught
in this compromising position and has been placed on snow shovel duty
clearing switches since then.
