Guys I have read a zillion posts on running the Gib .C F S stove .For my son in law must you have this cast iron coal retainer thig a ma jig in front of stove .Or can you load the stove to A Safe height an not harm the glass .Sounds like a dumb question but im a Hitzer user .Also need size of firebox please .Young man has electric base board heat an want to help him keep Heat Costs Down .Appreciate all comments .JackIn Pa.

Hi Jack, from what I can tell looking at the manual in one of the older posts, the banking plate doesn't look to be that high and most of the door glass looks unobstructed. Without seeing the stove in person or photos I think I would try to lay fire bricks on their side in front of the door and allow the coal to rise towards the back of the stove, Good luck.
