- Hand Fed Coal Boiler: Harman SF-360 Boiler
Hello Everyone,
I tried looking on the forum for a poll or thread of the most popular sizes. Sadly, I didn't find anything so, please take a minute to take part in this poll. If I left any sizes out, please list your size and I'll modify the poll.
Thank You!

I adjusted polling options with all available and unfortunately that resets the poll, if you already voted you'll need to vote again.
My predictions.
Rice - 45%
Nut - 40%
Pea - 12%
Buck - 2%
Barley, Range and Stove - 1% total
Range is mixture of pea and nut, barley is smaller than rice.

I use Buck in the house, Nut & Pea in shop. I'm predicting Nut will be the most popular.

I used range coal last winter, nut/pea mix, this winter with the New Yorker boiler I am planning on using strictly pea.

Arrgh, my predictions may be off. Lot of AHS and A-A users here and that wasn't typical in my delivery area.lsayre wrote:My vote went for pea.
One thing I should clarify is the "range" at least for bulk delivery would already be mixed before delivery. Ask your dealer about if you're interested. Most of my customers were very pleased with it.

Unfortunately, I had to vote Rice. It's not my favorite, but I can't get Buckwheat or Barly down here so, Rice it is!

In the 15 years I delivered coal I never even seen egg coal although the one year Hudson had some Stove that was bigger than a softball. My Uncle told me stories of delivering it when he was a kid so this would be going back to the 60's. He said he'd sit in the bin and build walls with it as there was no possible way to shovel it.StokerDon wrote: What ever happened to Egg Coal???

I would imagine it's matter of efficiency, there is almost no demand for it and you'd never get enough of the smaller sizes crushing it once. I'd also imagine this is why the stove is typically a bit more.

Buck and Barley should be very easy to obtain since they are not in demand, especially the barley. If your dealer is not stocking it they probably just don't want to deal with it. The buck can be crushed for rice but they don't want to do that because they end up with a lot waste with barley and smaller.... The barley is usually cheaperStokerDon wrote:Unfortunately, I had to vote Rice. It's not my favorite, but I can't get Buckwheat or Barly down here so, Rice it is!
That boiler you have is similar to Losch? That is really the only one I'm aware of that worked well with barley. I did have a few customers that had efm's using it.

I will be using Rice in the K-Lite and Pea in the Surdiac 513, Rice got my vote as I will be using the K-lite more often.
